D&M Home Inspections

I have seen as many as three layers of roofing on a house at inspections. In one case, someone installed plywood over the roof shingles and then added another layer.

An average roof weighs 250 lbs per square (100 sq. ft.). Add a few more layers of roof and some heavy, wet snow and you get the picture, this roof could collapse. Do not take the shortcut of laying over the old roof, always strip and replace.
