D&M Home Inspections

On a recent home inspection, while inspecting a first-floor bedroom, I noticed that the floor was a bit springy.

A further inspection of the crawlspace under the house revealed the problem. This home is supported by concrete piers. The piers end at the soil surface and concrete blocks connect the piers to the floor joists.

Since the blocks did not reach the floor joists, wood shims were installed. The shims have rotted or fallen out allowing the floor to bounce.
